Tasting boutique handmade wines at Tirohana
The Cellar Door is generally open for wine tasting and visits seven days per week, from 11.00am – 16:30pm *. Our friendly team will offer you tastes of our handmade, award-winning wines. Tirohana’s oldest vines were planted in 1988 and are located in the heart of Martinborough’s premium grape growing area. As well as Martinborough’s famed Pinot Noir (which Tirohana proudly won Championship Pinot Noir of New Zealand), varieties include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Dessert Wine, Rose and more. We have aged wine and wine from several vintages to try. You can also relax with a glass of wine. And why not enjoy some snacks or food from the wide selection on offer from our restaurant, high tea or all day dining options.
We have a set fee for our tasting experience in the Cellar Door with two options available (and the fee is refunded/waved for any client tasting who then purchases a bottle to take from our Cellar Door). The two wine tasting options are:
- $5 (per person) Wine Tasting Experience: clients can chat with our friendly team and taste three wines on offer that day (with the fee being refunded/waved for any client who then purchases a bottle or more from our Cellar Door).
- $10 (per person) Wine Tasting Experience: up to five wines can be tasted across our red and white wine varieties (again the fee being refunded/waved for any client who then purchases a bottle or more from our Cellar Door).
Our Cellar Door is the only place in the world to buy our boutique premium, handmade wines which are not available anywhere else, and the team members on duty will be able to advise of any special offers available to you during your visit for purchases to take away.
Tirohana Estate is located centrally in the heart of Martinborough and conveniently a short distance from other wineries in the area. So, it makes an ideal way to spend the day with a walk around the Martinborough vineyards. Or, to cycle or drive, along a wine tasting trail experience!
In addition to individual tastings, we can host larger groups and tours in our cellar door and back tasting room. We also have our Grand Marquee on site which offers a photogenic way to taste our wines for even larger groups, overlooking the vines.
It is always recommended to contact us and book ahead to be sure of a wine tasting as the Cellar Door and restaurant do get very.
* Please note the Cellar Door is closed 24/25/26 December, 1 January, Good Friday and Anzac Day morning. It may also have reduced hours over the festive season or during harvest/pruning seasons as the team work in the vineyard.
Emporium Gift Shop
The unique and atmospheric Emporium offers an excellent tasting room environment in which to sample Tirohana’s range of award-winning premium wines. The Emporium also stocks artisan Estate made produce. This ranges from confectionery to gourmet chutneys and preserves along with a range of gifts. Tours and wine talks can be pre-arranged.
Taste Some Wine, Taste Some Food
While you’re visiting, you can not only taste some wine but also have lots of choices for food and something to eat. We have all-day dining options, as well as serving lunch and dinner.
Outside, there is plenty of room to sit on a sunny day. You’ll never struggle to find a place to kick back and relax to enjoy the stunning views. Perhaps you would enjoy a gourmet platter in the warmer months on the outdoors terrace. Or, to experience an elegant High Tea or al fresco lunch. And, if you taste some wine in our Cellar Door during the day, you might have already found your preferred wine to go with your dinner later that day. Please contact the team to organise your catering requirements (or send us a message on the Tirohana Facebook page).
So, there is nowhere better to slow down to the speed of life and enjoy the extra special ambience and views Mother Nature has to offer – encapsulated within the beauty of Tirohana Estate where you will always be assured our a very warm welcome and a memorable visit.
